And not the one on my alarm clock.
A friend of my husband’s, who I’d reluctantly friended on Facebook, had one of her sons (a teenager) diagnosed with COVID-19 about 2 weeks ago. She also tested positive and had been staying home to take care of him, because he needed breathing treatments and stuff like that. She’s been coughing her brains out (and probably running a fever, I’d guess) and now that the magical 14 day period has passed (why is it magical? I don’t know.), she’s going back to work. Still coughing her brains out.
She’s a freaking TEACHER and probably turning her classroom into a goddamned superspreader. Why is she being allowed to go back to work? I have no idea. She doesn’t work in our district, which would tell her to stay her butt home until she tests negative. I hope she’s doing the smart thing and at least wearing a mask, but I’m guessing she’s not OR if she is (because her district probably requires it, I’m sure), she’ll keep it pulled down below her nose so she can breathe.
I had to hit the snooze button on her. Because I don’t want to see the fall out from her bad decision. I don’t want to see her get sicker and sicker and possibly die because she fucked up and put her job ahead of her own health. She has underlying health issues (because who doesn’t these days?) and is obese as well, which puts her in the high risk category. I can’t imagine WHY her boss would even let her anywhere NEAR work if she hasn’t tested negative and is still coughing her brains out.
COVID aside, I’ve not only SEEN what putting your job ahead of your health can do, I’ve LIVED it. And no job is worth permanent injury, turning a classroom full of kids into a super spreader event or god forbid, DYING.
